We are a family-owned, Canadian Company that provides local, handcrafted Canadian furniture. St. Jacobs Furnishings strives to provide high quality furniture that will last you and your family for generations.
For over 35 years, we've worked with over 16 Mennonite builders throughout Waterloo Region and surrounding areas. Nowhere in our story is there packaging or a warehouse when it comes to solid wood furniture.
Our beginnings correlate with the origins of the St. Jacobs Farmers' Market. What is now our store's building was once the entire indoor market full of vendors - including a small section with Old Order Mennonite furniture pieces. Furniture was a secondary industry for the Old Order Mennonites at that time. They would bring some of their early creations of solid oak and pine tables, along with their livestock, for auction next door, normally in the same truck/trailer to sell.
Since then we’ve expanded, but we maintain our hold onto these traditions. Our work with experienced and knowledgeable local Mennonite builders means we are able to offer a wide selection of solid wood designs ranging from traditional to contemporary to rustic. Due to the nature of wood furniture, each piece is built to order for the customer. This means we can customize each order's size, wood and finish.
Hand-Finished Quality
All our solid wood furniture is hand-finished with traditional methods, dating back to our early days in the St. Jacobs Farmers' Market. Originally, all the finishing on the furniture was done right on-site by hand with paint brushes. Our builders’ shops were small, often just a part of a driving shed that would also house farm equipment and winter wood storage. Today this process has changed, but our dedication to old world traditions and quality continues to stay the same.
What we Offer
This commitment to quality ensures that all of our furniture is handcrafted solid wood, primarily utilizing dovetailing construction. Our furniture is offered in various wood types, including:

- Black Walnut & Cherry (select cases)
St. Jacobs Furnishings is also proud to offer an exclusive line of barn board furniture made from reclaimed wood from decades (or even century) old pine barns. Barn board furniture comes with its own story told through the wood’s nail holes, stains, saw marks, and unique graining. No two pieces are ever the same, bringing its unique character right into your home.
